«El ciclismo sigue siendo un deporte de hombres». Lo dice la alpinista Rosa Fernández, fundadora del club cicloturista Una a Una, que en la mañana de ayer recorrió los siete kilómetros que separan el núcleo somedano de Saliencia del Alto de La Farrapona, donde culminará la etapa de la Vuelta a España que se celebrará el 3 de septiembre. Junto a ella, una veintena de socias de la agrupación, mujeres de todas las edades y profesiones que han encontrado en el ciclismo una forma de «conocer Asturias, disfrutar haciendo deporte, aumentar la autoestima y mejorar la salud».

Y es que «si el deporte es salud para todo el mundo, más lo es para la mujer», apunta Raquel Suárez, médico y miembro del equipo. El aumento de la densidad ósea que ayuda a prevenir la osteoporosis, la reducción de riesgos que derivan en problemas cardiovasculares o el fortalecimiento del sistema inmunológico que reduce las posibilidades de padecer un cáncer, sobre todo de mama, son algunos de los beneficios de la práctica habitual de deportes. A estos beneficios, el ciclismo aporta otro: «Es un deporte poco traumático, de poco impacto. Por ejemplo, una persona con hernia discal no puede correr, pero sí andar en bici», expone Suárez.unaauna

A esto, añaden Fernández y Suárez, se suma el hecho de que el ciclismo «es un deporte muy agradecido, porque, aunque se tarde en empezar a practicarlo, los beneficios se notan en poco tiempo».
Ambas deportistas relataron su experiencia sobre las dos ruedas en una charla organizada en el marco de las jornadas ‘La magia del ciclismo y la naturaleza’ celebrada en la tarde de ayer en el centro de interpretación del Parque Natural de Somiedo.
Promoción a largo plazo
En ese encuentro, también se habló del atractivo turístico del ciclismo. Así, el exciclista Jaime Mir, relaciones públicas del equipo Caja Granada, señaló que el deporte de la bicicleta «abre todas las puertas» y que la promoción que dará al concejo un fin de etapa de la Vuelta a España se mantendrá a lo largo del tiempo.

A ello contribuirán el Ayuntamiento y los hosteleros, que apuestan por convertir el ciclismo en una de las principales actividades de turismo activo del Parque Natural. Y es que «llegar al gran público es difícil y la bicicleta lo hace», apuntó el alcalde somedano, Belarmino Fernández.
